NEW YORK AOL said it bought a video search provider last month, adding to its technology in the area.

The Time Warner unit said it bought the year-old Burlingame, Calif., startup Truveo on Dec. 21 for an undisclosed sum. Truveo’s technology builds an index of online video clips by crawling Web sites with video content. Truveo launched its video search engine in September 2005. It has 1.8 million video assets in its index.

AOL said it would integrate Truveo with its own video search products, which include Singingfish, a multimedia search engine AOL bought in November 2003.
