Adding Up Adweek’s Classified Ads for Jobs takes

If you’re a connoisseur of lousy months in classified sales, give February 2001 an honored place in your collection. Judging by the volume of help-wanted ads running in Adweek, the market for jobs in advertising, marketing and media has gone dormant. Indeed, last month is the worst February for help-wanted ads since 1991—a.k.a. the year of the last recession. As you can see from the chart, every part of the country is getting into the act. Should we await a boomlet in ads for outplacement services?
