U.S. stocks on the Dow Jones Industrial Average posted modest losses Friday as indexes paused at highs for the year midweek. Steve Goldman, chief market strategist at Weeden & Co., said stocks are going through a “short-term, orderly consolidation” that typically follows a run-up, but he thinks the big gains this week were justified and, despite the dip on Friday, will continue over the coming weeks. Ad holding-company investors, on the other hand, witnessed modest gains by the end of the week. On the Big Board, Omnicom Group’s shares increased 1.1 percent to close the week at $79.20. Interpublic Group’s stock price rose 1.3 percent to $15.02. WPP Group, trading as American Depository Receipts on the Nasdaq, climbed 4.5 percent to finish at $45.88.
