KCNC Promotes EP to Assistant News Director

Jeff Gurney has been named assistant news director of KCNC in Denver.

Gurney, who has been the ep at the CBS owned station since 2000, takes over for Kristine Strain who was named news director in October.

“For the past three months I have been searching the country for our next assistant news director,” Strain said. “I was looking for a person who can help redesign and reinvent the position to fit a modern newsroom that serves multiple platforms all day, every day. Jeff has an uncanny ability to see the big picture and embrace our brand, while at the same time keep track of every detail of the day. Going forward, Jeff will be responsible for the growth and development of all our platforms.”

“It’s an honor and privilege to succeed Kristine Strain as assistant news director at CBS4,” Gurney said. “This is an exciting time in the TV news business and I look forward to helping lead the team as we work together to reimagine and grow our business across our broadcast, streaming and digital platforms.”

Gurney has been recognized with numerous awards, including the prestigious National Edward R. Murrow award for Best Newscast. He started his career as a reporter in Missouri and Kentucky, before moving into producing in Tennessee and then at WSVN in Miami from 1996 through 1999.
