KOKI news director Frank Volpicella is retiring after 43 years in local television.

Volpicella told Rick Gevers blog he will move to be closer to his family in Dallas, Texas.

In 2016, he took an early retirement package from Tegna owned KVUE in Austin, Texas after working there for 16 years. He then had a short stint as news director at WGCL in Atlanta, Georgia, before joining the Tulsa Fox affiliate in 2020.

He’s also been a news director in Lexington, Kentucky; Huntsville, Alabama; Tampa, Florida; Oklahoma City, and Jacksonville, Florida.

After retiring from KVUE in 2016, he said he planned on being retired for “about 10 minutes.”

“I’ve been working since I was 16 and I’ve never been without a job. Even when I changed jobs, I always left on a Friday and started on a Monday,” he told the Austin American-Statesman. “We’ll just see what doors open this time.”
