WXYZ reporter Peter Maxwell has revealed that he saved a man’s life in early July.
In a story about why more restaurants don’t have automatic electronic defibrillators, Maxwell said he “was out to dinner and ended up jumping into action to help save a man who was suffering a medical episode.”
“All of a sudden behind me and a little bit to my left, I heard this big noise, like boom, and I turned around and a gentleman had fallen face first and was laying with his face down,” said a witness.
“A couple people went to him but they didn’t do anything. Really the first person that I saw that was going to do something was you,” he told Maxwell.
Maxwell said he felt for a pulse. “It was faint, then it stopped. The man was not breathing.”
He then said he started CPR while another good samaritan gave mouth-to-mouth. An ICU nurse took over and Maxwell said he went looking for a AED.
He said the day after the incident the restaurant bought an AED and the man who suffered the cardiac event survived.
