Savannah Guthrie’s Mom Reported Missing in Arizona

Today led the 7 a.m. hour with the unsettling news

UPDATE—Feb. 5, 2026: Authorities investigating the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie have said that, at this point, no suspects have been identified. During the latest press conference held by Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and the FBI on Thursday morning local time, the authorities also said that the blood found on the porch of the house belonged to Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC News’ Savannah Guthrie, and they believe that she is “still out there.”

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department has offered a $50,000 reward for information leading to her recovery or an arrest.

Meanwhile, the presence of alleged ransom letters sent to media outlets prompted Savannah Guthrie and her siblings to record a video which was shared online on Wednesday evening, with the Today co-anchor saying, “We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen. Please reach out to us,” at the same time the family pleaded for proof of life for their 84 year old mother.

President Donald Trump spoke to Savannah Guthrie on Wednesday, offering words of support for her and her family.

UPDATE—Feb. 3, 2026: Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed a likely motive related to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, mother of NBC News Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, saying that it was a “possible kidnapping or abduction” from her Arizona home. The home is still being treated as a crime scene.

Meanwhile, NBC Sports on Tuesday released a statement revealing that Guthrie will not be part of the network’s Winter Olympics coverage “as she focuses on being with her family during this difficult time.”

“Our hearts are with her and the entire Guthrie family as the search continues for their mother,” the statement added.

The network will soon share updated coverage plans for this Friday’s Opening Ceremony.

Regular viewers watching NBC News’ Today were greeted on Monday morning with some unsettling news regarding the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mom, Nancy.

Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones led the 7 a.m. ET hour of Today with the unfortunate news, noting that the elder Guthrie, 84, has been missing from her Arizona home since Saturday night. The home is now being treated as a crime scene. She was last seen around 9:30 p.m. local time.

“On behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support,” said Savannah Guthrie in a statement shared with Today. “Right now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.”

According to Sheriff Chris Nanos of Pima County, a family member called 911 around noon on Sunday to report that Nancy Guthrie was missing. She was last seen near her residence in the Catalina Foothills area near Tucson, Arizona. He said that the family informed them that she does not have any cognitive issues but has some physical ailments.

The sheriff noted that the scene at the house was “concerning” for them, adding that search and rescue teams had been dispatched during the overnight hours, including volunteers, dogs, border patrol agents, drones, and helicopters.

He said that they’ve “pretty much thrown everything at this as we can,” including detectives from the homicide teams who believe it may be a case of foul play and not a senior wandering off.

Jenna Bush Hager, who personally knows Nancy Guthrie, said during Today’s 10 a.m. ET edition that Savannah’s mom is currently without the medication crucial for her survival.

“We thank law enforcement for their hard work on this case and encourage anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff’s Department at 520-351-4900,” Savannah Guthrie said at the end of her statement.
