CNN's Top Anchors to Host Sunday Night Specials Ahead of Midterms

Abby Phillip kicks off the rotation schedule for the two-hour specials

With the upcoming U.S. midterm elections less than a month away, CNN is putting its weeknight primetime anchors on Sunday night.

Beginning Sunday, October 11, at 8 p.m. ET, the network will rotate its primetime anchors each weekend as they host special editions of their shows during its Midterms 2026: Countdown to Election Night coverage.

CNN NewsNight host Abby Phillip kicks off the rotation, which will feature a familiar lineup of newsmakers, reporters, analysts, experts, and more to break down all things election in each edition of the primetime special.

Following Phillip, other weekends include coverage from Laura Coates and Kaitlan Collins. The final Sunday before the midterm elections will have two specials, with Erin Burnett at 6 p.m. ET and Anderson Cooper at 8 p.m. ET.

Regular Sunday night anchor Jessica Dean will take over from Cooper at 10 p.m., closing out the evening with a two-hour edition of CNN Newsroom.

“Every election is shaped by the issues and conversations unfolding well before Election Night. These specials will bring together CNN’s trusted anchors, reporters in the field, and experts to help audiences make sense of what’s at stake, hear directly from the people driving the conversation, and understand the forces shaping the midterms,” said Charlie Moore, svp, primetime programming.

In addition, the two-hour specials, airing on CNN, CNN International, CNN en Español, and streaming for subscribers, will include an interactive element: viewer feedback, where the audience can engage with the anchor and panelists in real time at cnn.com/EngagePolitics.
