With Drag and Trans Bans Sweeping the US, Representation in Media Matters
Revry shows the beauty of drag and trans stories to fight against the political changes being forced upon society
In honor of Transgender Day of Visibility, Revry – the LGBTQ- first media network dedicated to providing authentic representation of the queer community – is calling on better media representation in light of recent anti-drag and anti-transgender legislation sweeping the nation.
Telling diverse and inclusive stories has never been more critical. An unprecedented number of anti-LGBTQ bills continue to be proposed in state legislatures across the US. Elsewhere, nearly 70 countries continue to criminalize being LGBTQ, according to the Council for Foreign Relations, including 12 countries where consensual same-sex relations can mean the death penalty.
At Revry, we have seen a remarkable surge by as much as 30% on our free streaming platform, signifying a clear shift towards increased acceptance and understanding of this underrepresented community. Watching Revry is more than just entertainment; it’s a statement against those who wish to silence these important stories. Our platform celebrates the beauty of our queer community including the trans community and drag performers, offering a safe space to be seen and heard.
“The LGBTQ community has long been underrepresented in mainstream media,” said Damian Pelliccione, the first Non-Binary CEO of a Media Network. “We are committed to providing an inclusive platform where everyone can feel represented. We believe that representation in media matters; it helps foster acceptance and understanding within our community and beyond and we are committed to showcasing the beauty of this community and combating the negative perceptions.”
To show support as a member of the community and as an LGBTQ-first media network, Revry has created two PSA videos, #TRANSLIVESMATTER and #DRAGISNOTACRIME to draw attention to the beauty of our drag and trans communities. Revry’s Pelliccione was on the red carpet of the GLAAD Media Awards on Thursday, March 30th in a custom protest design by celebrity stylist Poni Silver.
Revry provides a diverse selection of films, series, and music from both established talent and emerging creators around the world that explore LGBTQ topics such as drag as art and identity (Drag Latina, Queens of Kings), breaking down barriers (Drag Kids) dating & relationship drama (The Roommate), transgender identity and the military (Transmilitary) and LGBT family issues (Why Can’t I Be Me? Around You).
