Telemundo May Try Late Night Again

Telemundo president Don Browne said today (May 12) that the network has not given up on programming in the late night hour, despite its cancellation of talk show Mas Vale Tarde con Alex Cambert after just five months on the air.

The once-a-week 11:30 p.m. Thursday show had its final airing on May 8, with the network canceling it because of poor viewership (under 100,000).

But Browne said it was an experiment that enabled the network to gather some intelligence about that daypart.

“We’re a business based on performance and that show didn’t draw enough of an audience,” Browne said. “it was an expensive show to produce. It started out strong but couldn’t sustain its audience. It was a test for us. We will go back to the drawing board and we will continue to do programming like that and push the envelope. We want to be in that time period.”
