Less than three months after stepping down as ad sales chief at Oxygen Media, Mary Jeanne “MJ” Cavanagh has resurfaced at Gospel Music Channel.
Cavanagh earlier this week assumed oversight of all sales efforts at GMC, having been named to the newly-created position of executive vp, advertising sales. Under the new structure, vp, ad sales Barbara Bekkedahl will report to Cavanagh.
Previously, Cavanagh served as executive vp of ad sales, Oxygen, a position she had held since June 2007. She moved up to the top spot after proving herself to be one of cable’s more forward-thinking sales execs, having brokered the industry’s first upfront sales via the eBay Media Marketplace, deals that brought in new clients like Home Depot and Intel.
She joined Oxygen in 2002 as vp of sponsorship sales for the East Coast.
Cavanagh ultimately decided to leave Oxygen in February, just months after NBC Universal completed its $925 million acquisition of the network.
Oxygen’s ad sales business is now steered by Susan Malfa, vp of ad sales for Bravo/Oxygen. Malfa picked up responsibility for Oxygen’s sales efforts in mid-April.
