For New Promos, Disney XD Turns to Street Artists and Art Toy Designers

Tristan Eaton, The Brothers McLeod among creators tapped

Disney's ad-supported kids' network, Disney XD, is doing something particularly interesting this fall: putting up promos designed by some fairly cutting-edge artists from several different walks of life, including Tristan Eaton.

Eaton designs art toys for Pretty in Plastic and Kidrobot alongside guys like Matt Groening and is a street artist whose work adorns the sides of buildings all over the world and has brands like Versace in his portfolio. Here he is in Paris:

Other participating artists include The Brothers McLeod, who are rooted in animation; silkscreen poster maker Buff Monster (another Kidrobot vet); and Ryan Quincy, who created IFC's Out There and worked on South Park, among other shows.

One of the most interesting ways that Disney is using all this talent is to introduce its own artists into its pantheon. For example, the company is debuting a new spot by Joel Trussell, whose resume is more Yo Gabba Gabba than Versace billboard. And that's good, because it's a very cute network ID, just in time to boost Pickle & Peanut, a new show from Trussell with Napoleon Dynamite's Jon Heder providing the main voice. The spot starts airing tonight, during XD's reboot of The Clone Wars, Star Wars: Rebels.
