It's finally happening: E!'s scripted series, The Royals, will grace its viewers with its presence in 2015. A one-hour drama by Mark Schwahn about the British royal family and starring Elizabeth Hurley, the show has been ordered to series by E!, though the network did not say how many episodes it would have.
Also on the docket for the female-skewing cable network: Botched, a reality series about correcting horrific plastic surgery mistakes, ordered for eight hour-long episodes and set for September; and Escape Club, a competition show in which twentysomething competitors are sent off to a tropical resort where they compete for the privilege to stay in the sun (think of it as the opposite of Survivor).
E!'s development slate has a deepening bench of scripted shows, too, including Songbyrd, by Gray's Anatomy writer Krista Vernoff and "featuring the experiences of" songwriter Diane Warren, who is a consulting producer (presumably Songbyrd uses details from Warren's life—the show is about an unlucky-in-love songwriter). And there's also a miniseries about drama among scions of the Gucci clan.
Unscripted development includes a series about Diane Von Furstenberg (called DVF); a special called, self-explanatorily, Lance Bass Wedding; a show about wealthy thirtysomethings produced by Giuliana Rancic (of E! franchise Giuliana and Bill); and an expansion of the network's #RichKids franchise—#RichKids of Beverly Hills already exists, now we are blessed with #RichKids of New York. Rancic is everywhere this season: Giuliana and Bill has been renewed, she's interviewing Lisa Vanderpump in a special, she anchors E! News and appears on Fashion Police.
The network's press presentation is Wednesday evening in Manhattan.
