Net income at Interpublic Group grew significantly in both the second quarter and first half of the year, amid modest revenue growth.
Omnicom Group eked out a net income gain of 2 percent in the first quarter, despite a revenue decline.

Interpublic Group's net income nearly doubled in the third quarter, as revenue grew by 8 percent. The holding company ended the quarter with $1.84 billion in revenue and net income of more than $89 million, up from $45 million in the same period last year. On an organic basis, revenue rose more than 6 percent.
Publicis Groupe delivered disappointing second-quarter and first-half results, with chief Maurice Lévy saying 2014 will “be a difficult year.”
Omnicom Group generated net income of more than $318 million in the second quarter, up 13 percent from the same period last year. Revenue for the quarter grew 6 percent to $3.87 billion, exceeding the estimates of Wall Street analysts, who had projected revenue of $3.74 to $3.82 billion, according to Yahoo Finance.
Interpublic Group's net income more than tripled in the first half of the year, thanks to solid revenue and earnings growth in the second quarter. Second-quarter net income grew 24 percent to $99.4 million, from $79.9 million in the same period last year. Revenue for the quarter grew 5 percent to $1.85 billion.
Net income fell at Interpublic Group last year—both in the fourth quarter and for the full year—despite revenue gains in each period. Revenue grew 3 percent in Q4 to $2.12 billion and 2 percent for the year to $7.12 billion, compared to the same periods in 2012. On an organic basis, revenue rose nearly 4 percent in the quarter and about 3 percent for the year.
Publicis Groupe, in the process of a merger with Omnicom Group, said organic growth was flat in the fourth quarter of last year, in contrast to a 3 percent rise in the first nine months.
Omnicom Group, hit by professional fees related to its proposed merger with Publicis Groupe, said fourth-quarter net income declined 2 percent to $300.5 million from $307.1 million in the same period of 2012.
