Matthew Epstein is a product marketer and digital strategist with big dreams of working for Google. To make his dreams come true, Epstein has launched his own personal marketing campaign at GooglePleaseHire.me, complete with a video resume like none you’ve seen before. Should Google hire Matthew Epstein? Read on to learn more and then judge for yourself.
The video resume, which can hardly be called a “resume” consists of Epstein sporting a fake moustache and engaging in (not-so)-witty banter with Google. It’s a great idea, in theory, but my issue is that he talks for four minutes straight without even mentioning the reasons why he’s the perfect fit for the job. He shows off his undies, jokes about his fake moustache, and shows off his hairy pedicured toes. But what makes him a good fit for Google? They’ll have to check out his written resume to find out. So what did you think of the video? Is it enough to get him a job with Google? Maybe. Maybe not. But I think we should know by the end of the day whether or not he will move along in Google’s recruitment process. On Twitter, Epstein revealed that he had a call with Google this morning and that his call “went smashingly!” and that they will be contacting him back later on to let him know if they’ll be moving forward. Apparently Epstein’s been contacted by Microsoft as well.
Kudos to Epstein for getting Google’s attention. I think he did a fantastic job at that and I think that the idea was amazing. I’m not quite as sure about the execution—I would have liked to see him work some of his qualifications into the video, instead of focusing all his attention on the moustache. But I suppose he’ll have time to prove his worth to Google HR if they decide to begin the interview process.
