USA Rides Burn Notice, Psych and Monk to Ratings Win

USA Network continues to steamroll through the winter months, nailing down seven of the top 10 most-watched programs on ad-supported cable last week on the way to its fifth straight prime-time ratings win.

According to Nielsen live-plus-same-day ratings data, USA averaged 3.35 million total viewers in the week ended Feb. 8, posting big numbers with its triad of original series (Monk, Burn Notice and Psych). USA also beat all comers with its delivery of viewers 18-49 (1.44 million) and adults 25-54 (1.55 million).

On Friday night (Feb. 6), the latest installment of Monk drew 5.68 million total viewers in the 9 p.m. time slot, securing the lead as ad-supported cable’s most-watched program during the seven-day period. Also delivering big for USA were: Burn Notice, which scared up 5.27 million viewers Thursday night at 10 p.m. and Psych, which drew 4.46 million viewers in the post-Monk slot.

Burn Notice also delivered the week’s largest concentration of adults 25-54 (2.71 million).

Meanwhile, WWE Raw delivered an average audience of 5.31 million viewers on Feb. 2 (9 p.m.-11 p.m.), and a pair of NCIS repeats served up 4.47 million viewers (Monday) and 4.32 million viewers (Thursday).

Taking second on the week was TNT, which averaged 2.56 million total viewers. The Turner net also placed second among 25-54s (1.26 million) and 18-49s (1.11 million).

TNT’s The Closer averaged 5.37 million viewers Feb. 2, 2.14 million of which were members of the show’s core 25-54 demo. The network’s Feb. 5 telecast of the Lakers-Celtics battle drew 4.31 million viewers, a delivery that included 2.38 million 18-49s and 2.35 million 25-54s.

Third place went to Fox News Channel (2.43 million), which continued to rack up big numbers weeknights at 8 p.m. The O’Reilly Factor delivered 4.08 million viewers Thursday night, good for 14th place on the week among all ad-supported cable programs.   

TBS remained in the four spot, averaging 1.78 million viewers, while reclaiming the lead among the 18-34 set (647,000). TBS also took third among viewers 18-49 (1.11 million) and 25-54 (936,000).

A&E returned to the top five with 1.67 million viewers, while laying claim to fourth place among 18-49s (790,000) and 25-54s (803,000).

The week’s top programs among 18-49s were: WWE Raw (2.51 million viewers), Burn Notice (2.41 million), Lakers-Celtics (2.38 million), Bravo’s Top Chef (2.32 million), FX’s Nip/Tuck (2.02 million), TBS’ Sunday 11 p.m. installment of Family Guy (1.81 million), the Tuesday 11:30 p.m. episode of Family Guy (1.79 million), Psych (1.78 million) and the Tuesday 9:30 p.m. showing of Family Guy (1.76 million).

Non-ad-supported Disney Channel closed out the week in fourth among all basic-cable nets, averaging 2.33 million total viewers.
