Tribune Broadcasting named Jerry Kersting Monday (Dec. 14) to the newly created position of chief operating officer. Since April 2008, Kersting has served as executive vp.

In his new role, Kersting will work with Ed Wilson, president of Tribune Broadcasting, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the company’s 23 TV stations, its national cable channel, WGN America and WGN Radio.

Kersting’s new position was created to help Wilson, who was named Tribune’s chief revenue officer in 2008, to focus more time and attention on driving revenue and generating sales, the company said in a press release.

“The past year has allowed me the opportunity to work together with Jerry on the restructuring of our stations,” said Wilson.
