Univision is rolling out its TV Everywhere service, UVideos, as an app on smart TVs and connected devices (e.g., Internet-enabled Blu-ray players) manufactured by electronics giant Samsung. The company has similar existing agreements with Xbox and Kindle. UVideos is also available on compatible iOS and Android devices.
The app will come pre-installed on Samsung devices and will be available in the company's app store for its line of tablets.
Univision has been the focus of a great deal of interest as Hispanic users become an ever-more-desirable demographic sector; the company commands a percentage of the Hispanic market in at least the high 70s. The demographic was considered crucial in many if not all of November's electoral races, and advertisers have responded accordingly to both the impact of well-designed ads aimed at Hispanics and the perceived failures, notably of the Romney campaign and conservative strategist Karl Rove, to estimate either the right way to reach Latinos or the need to reach them.
Hispanics in the United States are disproportionately inclined to use smartphones, tablets and other connected devices, and every Spanish-language network is pushing its digital bells and whistles first. The UVideos app is also part of Univision's TV Everywhere campaign and is distributed through Cablevision, AT&T and Dish Network.
