NCC's Schaefer Adds CEO Stripes

National Cable Communications has elevated Greg Schaefer to president and CEO, effective immediately.

Schaefer, who joined NCC in November 2002 as chief operating officer, was promoted to president of the spot-cable firm on Jan. 1, 2004. On that same day, CEO Tom Olson stepped down after a five-year stint at the helm of NCC.

During his tenure with the Manhattan-based NCC, Schaefer has led the company to record growth, with sales reaching $1 billion in 2008.

Schaefer has over 30 years of experience in ad sales and management under his belt, on both the station and representation sides. Before coming to NCC, he put in 20 years at CBS, where he ultimately rose to the position of vp and station manager at the WCBS flagship. Before that, Schaefer was president of Viacom Station Sales, overseeing the sales and marketing efforts for 35 CBS O&Os.
