Google CEO Schmidt Resigns From Apple Board

Apple said Monday that Google CEO Eric Schmidt is resigning from its board.

The move comes after reports of a federal probe into possible antitrust violations of board ties between the tech giants.

Said Apple CEO Steve Jobs: “As Google enters more of Apple’s core businesses, with Android and now Chrome OS, Eric’s effectiveness as an Apple Board member will be significantly diminished, since he will have to recuse himself from even larger portions of our meetings due to potential conflicts of interest.”

Schmidt joined the Apple board in Aug. 2006.
