Condé Nast just went on a major internet buying spree, purchasing a total of 285 domain names related to Reddit, the Condé-owned social news site. This raises a question, of course: What is Condé up to?
One theory is that it could just be buying up the names to protect its property and to prevent squatters from getting their hands on the sites. But buying such an extensive list of names with Reddit in the title—everything from activereddit.com to zenreddit.com—could mean Condé has something bigger in the works, like launching new Reddit services.
There have also been rumors that Condé is planning to spin off Reddit, given how well the site is doing and how little it meshes with Condé’s other holdings.
