Impoco most recently worked as a top digital editor at Reuters, experience that will be necessary for the brand since Newsweek ended its print edition late last year. He left Reuters back in January.
"Jim has a remarkable track record of leadership in journalism and a deep understanding of the digital industry, which is exactly what will take Newsweek to the next level," IBT Media CEO Etienne Uzac said in a statement.
Impoco—whose career also includes print experience, with stints at Conde Nast Portfolio and Fortune—said in a statement that he's looking forward to "revitalizing" the Newsweek brand.
Newsweek saw a fair amount of tumult before previous owner IAC sold it to IBT Media, with a number of high-profile staffers heading for the exit.
