Miami Herald's Jackson, Dead at 57

Terry Jackson, 57, an editor at the Miami Herald, died today from esophageal cancer. He contracted polio at just over a year old, spent much of his childhood in a full body cast, and lived about four decades longer than doctors predicted.

An excerpt from the paper’s report on his death follows:

The disease left him with one leg the circumference of a broomstick and a contorted back ”that twists like 40 miles of mountain road,” as Jackson described it.
