NEW YORK WPP Group relationship marketing shop Wunderman has merged its media planning and buying services into sister shop Mediaedge:cia, the agencies confirmed.
About 85 Wunderman media employees will move into Mediaedge:cia's New York headquarters, including co-directors Sheri Rothblatt and Gary Kagawa. Rothblatt and Kagawa will serve as managing partners, reporting to Mediaedge:cia chief executive Charles Courtier.
The division will also handle media planning and buying activities for many of Wunderman's clients, including 1-800-Flowers.com, AT&T, Club Med, Citibank and Campbell's Soup Co.
The new venture will also tap the data analytics services of Wunderman subsidiary KnowledgeBase Marketing, with offices in Durham, N.C., and Houston, the Wunderman representative said.
In a statement, Courtier called the merger an "integration of general and direct media expertise" designed to "place us at the forefront of communications planning."
The merger was a result of demand from several shared clients of the two shops, a Wunderman representative said.
