Long before those lightweight lizards scurried through Jurassic Park, there was Godzilla. And now he's back.
The scourge of downtown Tokyo, this mega dinosaur is heading stateside for a starring role in a new flick. What better way to herald the retro reptile's return than raising the world's longest billboard?
The 421-foot, 8-inch display covers a half block of New York's 42nd Street with the message, "He is longer than this sign."
Sony Pictures rented the spot from TDI. The latter is leasing the space from Tishman Realty & Construction during the building of a mammoth retail/hotel complex, called E Walk, due to open next spring.
Richard Kielar, senior vice president at Tishman, said the company checked record books to verify the claim. The runner-up, he said, was a car ad that circled an entire bull ring in Spain.
"It seems they can call it the world's longest billboard," said John Hunt, research director at the Outdoor Advertising Association of America, " for now."
