NEW YORK Interpublic Group's Universal McCann has tapped Rob Frydlewicz as svp, director of media research. He replaces Susan Nathan, a 16-year UM veteran who left the agency in August for a post at Turner Broadcasting System.

Frydlewicz was previously vp, media research director at Aegis Group's Carat, a post he departed 18 months ago to set up his own consultancy. His clients included MRI, Nielsen's Project Apollo and the Council for Better Business Bureaus.

Prior to Carat, he was director of research at FCB in New York and earlier held posts at N.W. Ayer, Young & Rubicam and Scali McCabe Sloves.

Frydlewicz will report to Graeme Hutton, UM's director of consumer insights.

Commenting on the appointment, UM's U.S. president Mary Gerzema said in a statement, "Rob's depth of experience and insight into the issues that continue to challenge the ever-changing landscape will undoubtedly bring value to Universal McCann."

"After many years in the business, I have come to respect the Universal McCann research network because of its reputation for embracing new research, its insistence on research quality and for the many resources available to it," said Frydlewicz.
