ATLANTA The new mascot for Gatlinburg, Tenn., tourism is a black bear being introduced this month in a national television campaign by The Tombras Group, the shop said.

The independent Nashville, Tenn., shop has produced six ads for the campaign, each spot emphasizing a different attraction in Gatlinburg. Among the amenities highlighted are the area’s shopping facilities, hotel accommodations, an aquarium and hiking trails.

Tombras and the Gatlinburg Department of Tourism chose the bear, actually a man wearing a bear suit, because research showed that most visitors come to the area hoping to see a black bear.
