NEW YORK Ad spending totaled more than $141 billion last year, an increase of 9.8 percent over the previous year, according to figures released Tuesday by TNS Media Intelligence/CMR, which tracks ad spending across individual media segments.

Although Olympics and political advertising are often cited as the main drivers for ad growth last year, other factors also contributed.
