Gray, Kirk/VanSant has laid off 13 staffers, a result of the breakup of its 19-year relationship with Choice Hotels International.

The $35-40 million account represents a reported 25 percent of the Baltimore agency’s business.

At least a dozen employees of the shop’s 55-person staff had worked in various capacities on CHI. Ten of the dismissed personnel, mostly administrative staffers, worked directly on the account of the Silver Spring, Md.-based hotelier.

At least three dismissals are said to be a result of a consultancy’s review of the shop, as well as a pending move from Baltimore’s World Trade Center at Harbor Place to Tide Point, a renovated detergent factory, according to a report in the Baltimore Sun.

Gray, Kirk seemed to be on the upswing this year.
