On second thought, perhaps pharmaceutical makers are not the devil incarnate. In this year's edition of an annual Harris Poll on consumers' attitudes toward various industries, people were more indulgent toward the pharmaceutical/drugs industry than in 2005. Its net positive score (subtracting the "bad job" vote from the "good job" tally) rose 12 points. Still, it's 35 points lower than it was as recently as 1997. Elsewhere in the poll, the airline sector saw its net positive rating drop 20 points amid higher ticket prices and assorted surcharges. Believe it or not, the oil industry fared better this year than last. Its net positive score rose by 12 points, though Harris cautions that the new poll was fielded early last month, before the latest run-up in gas prices provoked fresh hostility.
