SAN FRANCISCO Two former senior vice presidents at Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos here have launched their own agency, aiming to use their tech know-how to lure technology clients.

The San Francisco agency, Godfrey Q & Partners, will be focused solely on the advertising and communication needs of technology marketers. Patrick Godfrey, 34, managing partner of client services, has experience working with brand name tech clients such as IBM, Microsoft and Cisco. Brian Quennell, 45, managing partner and creative director, was the creative director and writer of Cisco Systems' first global campaign. He also worked on advertising for Dell.

The team is bringing Fred Goldberg out of retirement to serve as chairman of the advisory board of the new agency, along with Mike Massaro as vice chairman, who was the chief operating officer of the former Goldberg Moser O'Neill.

"Our mission is to be the best technology agency anywhere," said Godfrey. "There is a substantial resource void in this market for an agency that actually understands the unique needs, culture and challenges faced by technology marketers."

The partners founded the agency without a single client, but in recent weeks they have received project assignments and are involved in at least one new business pitch.
