Despite years of experience making its own computers, Radio Shack is now looking for an agency to create a back-end system for its marketing needs.
Two shops--Organic Online in San Francisco and Viant in Boston--have emerged as final contenders for the account, which began as an online creative and marketing assignment but has expanded to include other technology requirements, according to sources involved in the review.
The value of the task could grow as big as $10 million, sources said.
Radio Shack, based in Fort Worth, Texas, originally asked 12 new media shops from across the country for a partner to handle online marketing, including the redesign of the client's Web site, ad sales on that site and placement of banner ads on other sites. But the client is now seeking an shop to set up operations for its Internet activities, as well as handle online marketing duties.
Sources said Radio Shack wants to establish an e-commerce business, allowing customers to shop for its products online. The client did not return calls. --Sarah Jones and Glen Fest
