P&G Moves Clairol Business to Grey's Ericsson-Fina

NEW YORK -- Procter & Gamble is shifting part of its newly acquired Clairol business to Ericsson-Fina, a division of Grey Global Group, sources said.

Total estimated billings on the hair-color products line, which includes Ultress, Natural Instincts, Nice 'n' Easy and Hydrience, are $75 million in the U.S. Ericsson-Fina's portion of that business is estimated at $50 million, however sources said the account is a global one. It was previously handled by Foote, Cone & Belding here, owned by Interpublic Group.

The move was anticipated, due to conflicts: FCB's sister agency McCann-Erickson is a longtime Unilever shop.

P&G acquired the Clairol business from Bristol-Myers Squibb in November.

Grey and Ericsson-Fina have long been P&G roster shops, with the latter handling such brands as Pantene, Cover Girl, and Hugo Boss.

Sources said Clairol's Herbal Essences line of shampoos and hair color will remain at The Kaplan Thaler Group, a divison of B Com3. Other Bcom3 shops retained by P&G include D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles and Leo Burnett.

P&G officials could not immediately be reached for comment. Grey executives declined comment.
