Out of the Box: Connelly Builds Business, Staff

Connelly & Partners may not yet be nationally known, but its founder, former Ingalls president Steve Connelly, is methodically building a staff and clientele into a viable local agency.
Working in offices at 25 Dry Dock Ave. once occupied by Partners & Simons, Connelly & Partners has developed ongoing relationships with at least a half-dozen clients, including HomeRuns, the Boston Celtics, BMG Music of New York and Beacon Hill Showrooms.
The shop lost its first client. Following the completion of an assignment, Babson College in Waltham, Mass., moved its account to Mullen, where an agency representative said it is working on a strategic plan for the institution.
Recruits to the fledgling shop include director of brand management Joey Curtis; creative director Alyssa D'Arienzo; brand manager Amy Eroh; and brand supervisor Tom Cunningham. Curtis, D'Arienzo and Eroh worked with Connelly at Ingalls, while Cunningham joined from Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos in Boston.
When Connelly announced plans to open a shop in Boston [Adweek, June 7], his desire then was to be "relevant almost right out of the box nationally." But he has since toned down his ambition, noting that the world and his view of it have changed.
"Now it's not about money. It's all about time and who you want to work with rather than who you have to work with." K
