NEW YORK Ogilvy & Mather is moving Gary Leih, group managing director of Ogilvy South Africa, to the post of U.K. group chairman, effective mid-May, the agency said.

As group chairman, Leih will have responsibility for the overall direction, financial health and growth of the companies within the Ogilvy stable. Leih will succeed Mike Walsh, who has been chairman since 1990. Walsh continues as chief executive of Ogilvy EAME.

Leih, 46, began his career at Ogilvy Cape Town in 1980 and later at worked at Ogilvy Johannesburg, rising to group account director in charge of one-third of the agency’s business.
