NEW YORK Domestic ad spending for the first quarter of the year was $33 billion, up more than 7 percent compared to the same period in 2003 thanks to gains across major media, Nielsen Monitor-Plus reported today.

“The first quarter’s positive results point to a continuing strengthening of the U.S. advertising economy in almost all key sectors,” said Jeff King, managing director of Nielsen Monitor-Plus, in a statement. “We expect that two key events, the Summer Olympics and the presidential campaign, will fuel growth through the remainder of the year.”
