NEW YORK Gina Smith, senior vice president of sales for National Cable Communications, was killed in a car accident last night in Connecticut. She was 47.

Smith joined NCC in November 2003 after working in broadcast television sales management for nearly 20 years.

Smith spent the last seven years at NBC, most recently as senior vice president of ad sales for the Telemundo Station Group.

Joining NBC in 1996 as sales manager for WCAU-TV in Philadelphia, Smith quickly rose through the ranks to director of sales and marketing for NBC Television Stations in New York, vice president of sales for WJAR-TV in Providence, R.I., and station sales leader for NBC's Telemundo Integration Team.

"Gina was a rare spirit, and she became a leader, guiding force and friend to many of us at NCC, our clients and our affiliates in the short time she was here. She will be remembered forever and missed terribly," said NCC president Greg Schaefer in a statement Monday.
