FCB Worldwide has promoted Richard Gagnon to executive vice president, media director of its New York office, reporting to Jeff Tarakajian, president, CEO of FCB New York. Gagnon, 38, previously ran FCBi, the agency's direct marketing and interactive company, where he was senior vice president, media director. He replaces Ellen Oppenheim, who is taking a personal leave of absence. In his new role, Gagnon is responsible for supervising strategic media planning and development for FCB New York, including the shop's advertising, direct marketing and interactive media activities for clients such as Merck, Kraft, Nabisco and Tropicana.
FCB Worldwide has also named Stuart Ross senior vice president, director of public relations for the New York agency. He previously served as vice president, public relations for Kroll Associates. In addition, the agency has appointed Gayle Taryn vice president, director of public relations, FCB New York. She previously served as a part-time public relations director for Gotham and The Kaplan Thaler Group, and has been handling public relations for advertising agencies and corporations, such as Adler, Boschetto, Peebles, Altschiller/Reitzfeld and The Sara Lee Corp., since 1992.
Duffy Minneapolis senior designer Carol Richards has been named design director for Duffy New York, taking on much of the day-to-day creative management responsibilities in the New York office. Since joining the agency in August 1999, Richards has led the brand-identity design for Nuveen Investments and has art directed its print-advertising campaign.
Gotham in New York has promoted Christopher Hinkaty to director of Interactive Services, a new position. He had been promoted to account supervisor one year ago.
Pedone & Partners has hired Walter Coyle as senior vice president and media director, overseeing all aspects of media planning and buying at the agency. Prior to joining the New York shop, he was vice president and group media director for Deutsch in New York.
Griffin Bacal in New York has named Lindsay Culbert account supervisor, responsible for the Hasbro Interactive business. Most recently, Culbert worked as account supervisor of the DLJdirect business at Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners in New York.
The Advertising Club of New York made known that all five of its officers were re-elected to their respective posts for 2000-01 at the New York organization's 2000 annual meeting: Carla Loffredo, director of strategic planning, MindShare, to ACNY president; Robert Mate, vice president/publishing director, Meredith Corp., to first vice president; Paul Cappelli, founder/president, The Ad Store, to vice president; Gerald Siano, senior vice president/account director, Young & Rubicam, also to vice president; and Renee Simons, marketing and communications executive, Chase Etech, to treasurer. Peggy Stinchfield has rejoined NCI Advertising, New York, a division of NCI Network and a subsidiary of Nelson Communications, as vice president, associate creative director. Most recently, she was group art supervisor at Lyons Lavey Nickel Swift; prior to that, in 1997, she had served at NCI Advertising as vice president/group art supervisor. In addition, three staffers were promoted at the company. Margaret Kale has been elevated to assistant account executive/NCI Network business development and special services manager. Regina Hewston has risen to communications coordinator/junior staff writer. Marylin Guzman has been promoted to media coordinator for NCI Advertising.
Edgetrade.com, a New York online direct-access trading and education firm, has named Barbara Schiano executive vice president. She formerly worked as director of operations at UniWorld Group.
Backe Communications in Ardmore has appointed Michael Davidson senior copywriter in the agency's creative department. He was previously a consultant for companies including Toyota, Warner Bros., CBS TV and Disney. Prior to that, for four years, he was a print and broadcast copywriter on the national Mazda Motors of America account in the Los Angeles office of FCB.
FlashPoint-DBC Advertising in Horsham has promoted Shana Black and Liz Choi to associate account manager positions. Black joined the agency in August 1999 as an account coordinator, and Choi joined FlashPoint-DBC in October 1999, also as an account coordinator.
