NEW YORK Ammirati Puras Lintas, New York, has appointed Martin Copus as director of new business, Europe. Copus was also named to the new post of worldwide director, brand development. He had worked for Leo Burnett, Chicago, most recently as a senior vice president on the Marlboro account. Ryan Drossman & Partners, New York, has hired Matthew Hallock as senior copywriter on Bear, Stearns & Co. and other accounts. Hallock was vice president, creative supervisor at Adler Boschetto Peebles & Partners, New York. Margoetes/Fertitta & Partners, New York, has elevated both Gary McKendry, group creative director, and Nancy Katz, group account director, to partner. Mike Emerson was tapped by Foote, Cone & Belding, New York, as group management director on the Lucent Technology Microelectronics business. Emerson had been senior vice president, management director. Young & Rubicam, New York, has elevated Penny Erickson to executive vice president, director of partnership management services of the Y&R/WCJ Partnership. She had been executive vice president, manager of client services at Y&R. Randy Rosand was named associate creative director at Grybauskas Beatrice, New York. He will be involved in all creative chores on the United States Tennis Association, Jose Cuervo Tequila and Volunteers of America accounts. Zenith Media, New York, has tapped Michael McDevitt as executive vice president, director of business development. His role will be to attract new clients, build revenue and coordinate worldwide new business activities with Zenith's office in London. McDevitt had been head of West Coast operations for Parade. Bates Worldwide, headquartered in New York, has named Joanna Baldwin director of new business, Europe. Baldwin will be based in London and is responsible for driving growth in Europe. NCI Network, New York, the corporate parent of 27 companies providing marketing services to the healthcare industry, reported the following hires: Bob Morais as executive vice president, NCI Network; Marge Casey as media director, NCI Network; Nathania Langsam, account supervisor, NCI Advertising; and Scott Sager as vice president, assistant creative director, NCI Advertising. ESPN International, New York, has elevated Michael Fox to vice president, worldwide advertising sales. Fox had been director, worldwide advertising. He will supervise ESPN's international advertising offices in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Mexico City; S‹o Paulo, Brazil; Rome; Johannesburg, South Africa; Sydney, Australia; and Tokyo, and will serve as sales liaison to ESPN's joint venture with Star TV in Asia. Individual Investor Group has named Mark MacDonald group publisher. He will oversee both Individual Investor and Ticker magazines, as well as Individual Investor Online. MacDonald recently founded the Association of Independent Business Owners, and prior to that was founding publisher of Men's Journal for Wenner Media. Valerie Itkin was tapped as senior vice president of the healthcare practice at Ketchum Public Relations, New York. Itkin comes from Sciens Worldwide Public Relations, where she was a senior vice president. Salt Water Sportsman, New York, has tapped David Morel as advertising director. Morel had been Northeast and European sales manager of Power & Motoryacht. Thomas Ryder has been named chairman and chief executive officer of The Reader's Digest Association, Pleasantville. A veteran of publishing and direct marketing, Ryder most recently was president, travel related services, for American Express. Marie Claire, New York, has named Suzanne Coppola as director of fashion and retail advertising. Coppola had been fashion director of Vogue. HWH Public Relations, New York, has appointed Carl Levine as vice president. A 20-year veteran of the video, multimedia and publishing industries, Levine has worked as a sales and marketing executive and as a journalist. Gary Bertalovitz was appointed president of McDonald/Richards Model Management, New York, an agency representing models in print campaigns and TV commercials. Bertalovitz had been head agent. William Short has been tapped as vice president, advertising, publicity and promotion, by Warner Bros. Domestic, Pay TV, Cable and Network Features, New York. Short will be responsible for print and electronic advertising, promotional tie-ins with the television networks, pay-per-view and consumer press. Chief Executive, New York, has promoted Carol Evans to chief operating officer. Evans will retain her position as publisher of the magazine. CONNECTICUT Herschel B. Sarbin has joined Marketing 1to1/Peppers and Rogers Group, Stamford, as a senior director. He will extend the relationship management consultancy's range of services to include custom communication strategies for major brands. Sarbin was most recently president and chief executive officer of Cowles Business Media. Marketing 1to1 has also reorganized its consulting group under newly appointed partners Thomas Niehaus and Thomas Shimko. Niehaus was vice president of consulting services for Simba Information, a division of Cowles Business Media; Shimko was vice president of marketing for the U.S. mailing systems division of Pitney Bowes. Source Marketing, Westport, has hired two new professionals: Kara Morgan joins the company as account director; and Vanessa Jones comes aboard as an assistant account executive.
