Middlebrook Rises to Global GM Post

CHICAGO General Motors said it has promoted North American vice president of marketing and advertising John Middlebrook to vice president of global sales, service and marketing.

In the new post, Middlebrook, 63, will report to GM chief executive Rick Wagoner. Mark LaNeve, 45, divisional marketing general manager for GM's Cadillac brand, will replace Middlebrook as North American vp of marketing and advertising. He will report to John Smith, group vice president of North American sales, service and marketing. The moves are effective Sept. 1.

"John's extensive experience in sales and marketing makes him particularly well qualified for this new assignment," said Wagoner in a statement. "He will lead our efforts to implement the best practices in GM's sales, service and marketing operations around the globe, and provide expertise and support to our four automotive regions to improve their capabilities in these critical areas."

Additionally, Jim Taylor, 47, will replace LaNeve as divisional marketing manager for Cadillac. Mike Giovanni, 56, will become executive director of strategic marketing, a new post reporting to Smith. Susan Doherty, 41, will replace Giovanni as divisional marketing manager for GM's Hummer brand.
