NEW YORK Interpublic Group's McCann Erickson has promoted Stephen Whyte from client services director of McCann Erickson EMEA to CEO of its London office, the agency said.
Whyte will replace Chris Hunton, who resigned. The new appointment takes effect May 1.
Whyte will continue to be based in London and will report to McCann Erickson WorldGroup U.K. chairman Rupert Howell, who said in a statement, "I am sad that Chris decided he wanted to leave, but delighted to have someone of Stephen's caliber on hand to replace him. He has worked at some of the very best agencies in the U.K., including AMV, GGT and Leagas Delaney; and ran Leo Burnett when it was producing the best work of any multinational agency in London. He has also worked with our executive creative director Robert Campbell in the past, which is a real bonus."
Whyte said in a statement, "Obviously this is a fantastic opportunity to join the new leadership team at McCann London and restore it to its former glories. The client list is extraordinary and we are going to raise our game to meet their growing needs."
