McCann Nets Lycra Business

NEW YORK -- DuPont has expanded its relationship with McCann-Erickson by awarding it global creative duties for the Lycra brand, the agency and client said. McCann landed the account after a review that sources said included the incumbent, Saatchi & Saatchi, and Young & Rubicam. Billings were undisclosed, but sources said globally the client will spend about $40 million.

McCann New York has handled corporate advertising for DuPont since 1999 and created the global campaign tagged, "The miracles of science."

The new assignment involves boosting consumer awareness of Lycra, a 40-year-old material used in intimate apparel, swimwear, sportswear, some footwear and bedding.

In a statement, Eric Keshin, general manager and COO of McCann New York, said, the brand "still has enormous growth potential and we look forward to working with [DuPont Textiles & Interiors] to help realize that potential."

Linda Kearns, global brand manager for the Wilmington, De.-based client, said "The strategic and creative insights that McCann demonstrated, along with the strength of their McCann global network, convinced us that they are the ideal partner for our aggressive global plans for the Lycra brand."

DuPont Textiles & Interiors also makes other manufacturing materials including, Teflon, Stainmaster, and Dacron.
