RL Public Relations + Marketing in Los Angeles has hired Melissa Karp as senior vice president and head of its New York office. Karp, who was most recently group vice president at GCI in New York for five years, will be responsible for business development at the new office. Additionally, she will work with the agency's newly created Latino sports group, Sportivo, to implement its growth strategy. While at GCI, Karp created and led the launch of the Schick Intuition and Quattro and counseled Cover Girl on its Hispanic marketing efforts for almost four years. During this period, she worked closely with RLPR on an educational initiative for Cover Girl that focused on the rising dropout rate among Latinas. RLPR's other clients include Sears Roebuck & Co., Nike and Schieffelin & Somerset.
