AdKnowledge Engage-d
CMGI company Engage Technologies, Andover, Mass., a provider of profile-driven Internet marketing solutions, said it will acquire AdKnowledge, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based provider of Web marketing management services for online marketers and agencies, in an all-stock transaction valued at approximately $193 million. By integrating Engage's profile-based targeting, AdKnowledge customers will be able to target and analyze campaigns based on profiles of their target audience.

NeoPlanet Enters Phase
NeoPlanet, the Phoenix-based developer of branded, Internet browser "skins," tapped Phase2Media, New York, as its sales representative to sell rich-media advertising to NeoPlanet's Internet Desktop, including the InfoBox, a persistent, built-in ad space, as well as bi-weekly pop-ups delivered to NeoPlanet's 2.5 million user base. NeoPlanet's free Internet Desktop offers Web browsing, e-mail, instant messaging, chat and virtual communities.

Look Out for LookSmart
San Francisco-based directory and search site LookSmart launched a $20 million consumer branding initiative last week with television spots airing in major markets nationwide. Radio launches in fourth quarter and print in January. Created by San Francisco-based Rathje Chadwick & Company, TV spots run the song "Help!" by the Beatles. Looking to target a mainstream, family-oriented market, LookSmart will also sponsor various PBS programs, including Sesame Street and Mystery.
