NEW YORK Interpublic Group has elected IMS Health CEO David Thomas to its board of directors, restoring it to 10 members.
Departing IPG chief operating officer Chris Coughlin left the board in July.
Thomas, 54, will also serve on the board's audit and corporate governance committees. His appointment is effective immediately.
IMS, which Thomas joined in 2000, provides information solutions to pharmaceutical and healthcare companies. Before that, Thomas spent 28 years at IBM, starting in 1972 as a marketing representative and rising to senior vice president and group executive in IBM's Personal Systems Group.
"I've known David for a long time and know firsthand the great intelligence and broad business experience he brings to the table," said IPG board chairman Michael Roth, in a statement. "We are very pleased to have an executive of his caliber join our board."
Thomas also serves on the boards of TriZetto Group and Fortune Brands and an advisory board to EZgov, which markets software applications to local, regional and federal governments.
