Omnicom, Intel Near Deal For Exclusive Access to Viiv NEW YORK Omnicom Group is close to striking an arrangement with Intel that would allow its clients what is believed to be exclusive access to the chipmaker's Viiv technology platform, which aims to make it possible for broadband video to move from the computer to TV and other devices, sources said. Difficulties streaming broadband content to non-Internet platforms is widely considered to hamper increased viewership for that content. Sources said Omnicom's media group would "manage access to their clients for Intel," which has signed agreements with content providers like ESPN and MTV to encrypt their content to be played on Viiv platforms. Both Omnicom and Intel declined comment.Ogilvy Eyes Japanese Internet Ad Market With Joint VentureNEW YORK WPP Group's OgilvyOne last week began a joint venture to enter the Japanese Internet advertising market, the second-largest globally behind the United States. OgilvyOne Japan partnered with Nikko, a Japanese online media company, to create Neo@Ogilvy KK. The joint venture will plan and place Web ads and offer search marketing services. IBM, Lenovo, Cisco Systems and SAP have signed on as clients. Neo@Ogilvy KK will be part of the OgilvyOne network as its Web media arm.Amp'd Mobile Moves $50 Mil. Media Planning, Buying ChoresNEW YORK Wireless phone service provider Amp'd Mobile has awarded its media planning business to Taxi and buying chores to Horizon Media, according to sources. Both assignments had been with Aegis Group's Carat. On Thursday, Carat issued a statement that said agency and client "mutually decided to part ways over a competitive concern." Client and agency officials could not be reached for comment, and it is unclear if there was a review. Amp'd launched its phone business last fall and spent just $5 million on ads in the last two months of 2005, according to TNS Media Intelligence. But sources said the client's media budget calls for spending $50 million annually. Taxi already handled Amp'd creative. Horizon had not been on the roster. Both shops are New York independents.LG Briefs Shops on Consolidated North America CreativeNEW YORK LG Electronics briefed at least four agencies on an assignment to handle consolidated creative duties on its line of products in North America (U.S., Canada and Mexico) last Wednesday at the client's U.S. headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., according to sources. The U.S. incumbent is WPP's BrandBuzz in New York, which has worked for LG since 2001. Sister shop Young & Rubicam is said to be defending BrandBuzz's U.S. piece in addition to pursuing the rest. Other shops pitching are WPP's JWT and Publicis' The Kaplan Thaler Group, and at least one unidentified agency. The client is also dismantling its in-house agency, LG Ads, according to sources. Agency executives either could not be reached or referred calls to the client. LG executives were not available at press time. The Seoul, South Korea-based client spent about $50 million in U.S. media in 2005, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.News RoundupNEW YORK WPP on Friday reported a 5 percent gain in first-quarter revenue to approximately $2.6 billion, compared to the same period a year ago. In constant currency terms, factoring out acquisitions and currency fluctuations, WPP's revenue for the period rose 18 percent, compared to the first three months of last year. The London-based holding company—the first to report Q1 results—said in a statement that all regional operations (save the United Kingdom) posted double-digit revenue growth and its agencies generated $2.34 billion in new-business billings—"the highest net new business won by the group for a first quarter."
