Richards Group Wins Account of QuikTrip
DALLAS—QuikTrip gasoline and convenience store centers has moved its advertising account to The Richards Group, the client confirmed. The Dallas independent shop secured the business following a review that included three-year incumbent Austin Kelley Advertising, an Atlanta unit of the Interpublic Group, Ackerman McQueen in Tulsa, Okla., and three undisclosed Southwest and Midwest agencies, sources said. Media consultant Barry Silverman conducted the review, which sources said began when client chief executive officer Chet Cadieux joined the Tulsa company earlier this year. Spending on the account, per CMR, had dropped to less than $1 million in 2001.
PacifiCare to Name Hispanic Agency Finalists
LOS ANGELES—PacifiCare Health Systems this week is expected to name four or five finalists in the review for its estimated $2 million Hispanic account. Approximately 15 shops responded to the request for proposal, including al Punto, Tustin, Calif.; cruz/kravetz: Ideas, Los Angeles; Mendoza, Dillon & Asociados, Newport Beach, Calif.; and Publicis Sanchez & Levitan, Irvine, Calif., and Dallas, sources said. This is a new initiative for the Santa Ana, Calif.-based client. The review is being led by Select Resources International in West Hollywood, Calif. Doner in Southfield, Mich., handles PacifiCare's $20 million general-market account.
Frontier Airlines Selects Sticky Grey
LOS ANGELES—Frontier Airlines has hired Sticky Grey to handle creative duties for its $10 million ad account. The other finalists were davidandgoliath, Los Angeles; McClain Finlon, Denver; and Cunningham Iverson Group, Houston. Fifty-five agencies initially responded to the request for proposal, said Ian Arthur, senior director of marketing and brand management for Frontier. The 9-year-old airline contacted agencies that had pursued the business in the past, when it was handled in-house, Arthur said. Sticky Grey is a division of Grey in New York. Media buying and planning remain with Frontier.
Re/Max Issues RFPs for Creative Project
ATLANTA—Requests for proposals from Re/Max for a $2 million creative project are due Nov. 1, the client said. The Englewood, Colo.-based real estate firm is looking for an agency to provide creative services for its 2004 national television campaign. Carat in Memphis, Tenn., will continue to handle media buying for the estimated $30 million account. ReMax creative director David Rea said the firm contacted an undisclosed number of shops. Baltimore incumbent Carton Donofrio, which has held the creative contract since 2000, will defend.
HGTV Contacts Shops in the Southeast
ATLANTA—Home & Garden Television has issued some two dozen RFPs for its $10-12 million account. Among those contacted are incumbent Lewis Communications, Birmingham, Ala.; The Buntin Group, Nashville, Tenn.; Fitzgerald + Co. and J. Walter Thompson, both Atlanta; The Martin Agency, Richmond, Va., and Trone Advertising, Greensboro, N.C. New York's AAR Group is conducting the search for the Knoxville, Tenn.-based cable network.
