Fogarty Makes Finals in Advance Auto Review

CHICAGO—Fogarty Klein Monroe is one of two finalists in the review for the $50-60 million account of Advance Auto Parts, sources said. The Houston agency will continue competing with Cramer-Krasselt in Orlando, Fla., for the Roanoke, Va.-based automotive chain's business. Semifinalists included Barkley Evergreen & Partners in Kansas City, Mo., Fletcher Martin Ewing in Atlanta and Martin/Williams in Minneapolis. A decision is expected this month. Incumbent The Martin Agency in Richmond, Va., did not compete.

Zehnder Hires Business-Development Director

DALLAS—Zehnder Communications has installed Gary Miller in the new position of business-development director. Miller will work with existing clients and seek new-business opportunities for the New Orleans shop, which wants to increase its "reach across the Gulf South region," the agency said. Miller joins from the Louisiana division of Gannett Newspapers, where he served as advertising director.

Calise and Sedei Adds Group Account Chief

DALLAS—Calise and Sedei has hired John Lee as group account director. Lee joins the Dallas agency from technology company Parago, also based here, where he served as director of integrated marketing communications. Before shifting temporarily to the client side, Lee spent 17 years at agencies including The Richards Group in Dallas and Temerlin McClain in Irving, Texas. Lee will manage the agency's account roster, which includes Argenbright Security and Santera Systems, and will assist in new-business development.

Kmart Produces First Spanish Circular

DETROIT—Kmart for the first time is publishing its weekly advertising circular in Spanish throughout the U.S. The full-color circular, which is being released to coincide with September's Hispanic Heritage Month, will be featured in 10 prominent Spanish-language newspapers. It will also be available in 160 stores, serving communities with large Hispanic populations. The initial work will highlight the five-year anniversary of Kmart's exclusive Sesame Street clothing label. Meridian Advertising in Troy, Mich., which handles Kmart collateral, developed the circular.

Dieste Harmel Wins Outdoor Media Award

DALLAS—Dieste Harmel & Partners has received the national Outdoor Media Plan of the Year award from the Outdoor Advertising Association of America. The Dallas agency won the distinction for its Wrangler campaign. The effort consisted of Spanish-language posters that appeared in 28 markets during May, July and November 2001. Raleigh, N.C.-based West & Vaughan was recognized in the local category for its poster campaign on behalf of Morningstar Mini-Storage. The work appeared throughout Charlotte, N.C., in 2001. Winners were selected based on plans that "maximize the synergy" between media and creative strategies within a budget, according to an OAAA statement. The competition was open to all agencies running outdoor campaigns in the U.S. the previous year.
