Amana Initiates Agency Search
CHICAGO--Amana Home Appliances has contacted shops regarding its $3-5 million account, sources said. The Amana, Iowa, company declined comment, but shops in the Midwest and Southwest have received inquiries, sources said. The appliance maker's account was last handled by Ingalls Advertising in Boston but fell inactive when the company's Lexington, Mass.-based parent company, Raytheon Co., last year sold Amana's home appliance and heating and air-conditioning businesses to privately held Goodman Holding Co., Houston.

Gillette Ups Ad Ante to $200 Mil. for Mach3
BOSTON--The Gillette Co. here has announced it will spend $200 million in one year on advertising and worldwide marketing to introduce its Mach3 shaving system, which will be available in North America in August. Media includes television, radio, print, billboards and the Internet. TV commercials retain the client's tagline, "The best a man can get." Visuals include a clean-shaven test pilot breaking the sound barrier in a supersonic jet. BBDO in New York is Gillette's lead agency. Think New Ideas in New York last week launched a Web site for the client.

Cape Cod Chamber Debuts Spring Effort
BOSTON--The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce has introduced a print campaign to promote the peninsula as an attractive tourist destination. One ad uses the headline, "Our spring flowers have historic roots." Fleming & Roskelly in Newport, R.I., created the ads, which are scheduled to run in Travel & Leisure, Yankee Magazine's Travel Guide, USA Weekend and elsewhere.

Newspaper Co. Unveils Newcomers Guide
BOSTON--Community Newspaper Co., a unit of Fidelity Investments, has launched the Newcomers Guide. The monthly publication will compete against The Homesteader, which currently serves 10 Bay State communities. Newcomers Guide will be mailed free of charge for one year to new residents of eastern Massachusetts. Peter Vandevanter, formerly developer of special sections for The Washington Times, is the publisher.

Broadcast Legend Wilson Returns in Bank Ads
BOSTON--Bob Wilson, the voice of radio broadcasts of the Boston Bruins from 1964-68, has been signed by Tracey Edwards Co. here to provide the voiceover in upcoming campaigns for East Boston Savings Bank.

MCS Breaks Ads for Agfa Division
BOSTON--MCS Advertising & Production in West Hartford, Conn., has created print ads for the medical imaging unit of the Agfa-Gevaert Group. MCS has been the agency of record for the Ridgefield Park, N.J., division since 1996. The effort promotes an upcoming symposium and touts Agfa's leadership position in the category. Ads are appearing in trade publications such as Telemedicine, Diagnostic Imaging and Decisions in Imaging Economics. Billings were not disclosed.
