Jonathan Winters Pitches California Eggs
LOS ANGELES--Comedian Jonathan Winters will appear in Evans, Hardy & Young's new TV campaign for the California Egg Commission. The first of four commercials from the Santa Barbara, Calif., agency breaks in major California markets during tonight's Academy Awards telecast. Winters appears as several characters who champion the virtues of eating eggs. The tagline is, "California fresh eggs. They're good. Really good."
Horizon Launches HMI Entertainment
LOS ANGELES--Horizon Media has formed a new division, HMI Entertainment, to assist film, TV, home video and leisure clients with media planning and buying. The division, to be housed at Horizon's Los Angeles offices, will be directed by entertainment marketing veteran Neal Lemlein. Lemlein, who joins Horizon from the Popcorn Channel, has held top entertainment marketing positions at Foote, Cone & Belding, D'Arcy Masius Benton and Bowles, Universal Pictures and Twentieth Century-Fox.
Kupchick Returns to Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES--Alan Kupchick, who last month moved to Grey Advertising's New York office to oversee the Kraft General Foods business, has returned to Los Angeles following the agency's loss of the account, according to Larry Varnes, Grey L.A.'s vice chairman. Kupchick resumes his responsibilities in L.A. as vice chairman and chief creative officer. Executive vice president, managing director Steve Blamer, who was also transferred to New York, is still there. Kupchick could not be reached for comment at press time.
Showboat Cruises to Las Vegas Shop
CHICAGO--Showboat Mardi Gras Casino in East Chicago, Ind., selected Shonkwiler-Marcoux Advertising & Public Relations, Las Vegas, as its agency, following a brief review. The agency leveraged a prior relationship between its executives and members of a new management team at Showboat in winning the account, said sources. Previous agency Cramer-Krasselt in Chicago split with the client earlier this year. The casino, owned by Showboat Inc. in Atlantic City, N.J., spends about $2 million annually on advertising. Showboat agreed in December to be purchased by Harrah's Entertainment in a deal that is still pending.
